We have an election concerning expanding alcohol sales here in Danville to include that of packaged sales. For those outside of the area, let me be clear – you can already get it by the drink in several establishments, as well as packaged in several nearby counties, including a less then thirty minute drive in at least three directions. And yes, you guessed it, I have an opinion.

A few days past the event, but did anyone watch it? I did of course, being a past junkie for such kinds of information, having only really trailed off during the last bit of the Bush (W) part of there deliveries. I found it interesting but came away with a general sense of dismay. As all are away I did not support Obama during his campaign, but once the American people had there say I started to buy into the idea of a dramatic change. A year into things and I see very much the status quo in Washington and to sum up in a few words, a president who now realizes dramatic change was to hard and to settle for subtle changes will be acceptable instead.

I have a few notes about various things on which I want to comment. Very few of them actually merit their on full blown blog entry, so I am going to put them here in a group. They are a few things from headlines, news, links, and just general things – and almost none of them belong together in fashion. I am thinking about making this some of regular feature here on mephistos, as I often have such little one or two line things that I would like to at least share the link about and give my two cents of opinion about the subject. Read through this one and let me know if you think it is a good idea or not – and for the record, I will assume no comment to be a silent affirmative.

Read an article that showed up on a list I am today about a Mr. Xinos, an attorney in a town in Illinois. Apparently the town has just recently cut some funding to the library resulting in a some jobs being cut at the library. According to the article, after a couple of speakers, one of which was a child, Mr. Xinos had some really less then things to say and further suggested that the entire library be closed.

There are a lot big anniversary dates for some pleasant memories that I have here in November. Some are just a wow, that is so much a part of my generation and identity of who I am (and collectively who we are ). A couple of the others are just a wow, I can’t believe that is actually happening and thinking I will have to remember where I am when that happened and how it all came about it. The kind of things that as we move through history will likely be major points of reference. Being nostalgic makes a lot of sense, as they are playing mid 80’s music in here in the coffee shop anyway.

I find myself at one of my local favorite places this eve enjoying a beer awaiting the ‘Last Free Man in America’ to address the group that is slowly assembling here as he is getting a start on his campaign for governor of this fine commonwealth of Kentucky in 2011. If are from around the state you would have to probably be living under a rock to not know that I am speaking about Gatewood Galbraith.

I am always amazed to observe how pricing issues tend to work on occasion. I have observed more then a few here on the blog over the last couple of years (most notably those of hotels, airlines, and gas come to mind). I am finding some other interesting pricing structures that do not always makes sense seemingly everyday though actually a couple that I am going to share here actually do make sense for a change.

What I got here is a prime example of great government intelligence. What I am about to say is unbelievable in the best of times but given that this is a stretch of road that is maintained by the Commonwealth of Kentucky it becomes even more appalling. The fine commonwealth has recently been discussing just how budget shortfalls are going to met, debating cuts to services, increases in fees (another way of saying tax in a very thinly disguised wording), and even looking at the possibility of a looming special session to figure it out. Granted there has been some trickle of money starting to come in from the federal aid packages and maybe that explains the following:

I agree that with President Elect Obama taking the oath of office and becoming the President today was indeed a historic moment. I think that it is great that we live in a country where we have finally realized that we can have a black man as our president, even if I don’t necessarily agree with all of his ideas. Even with that, I will say it seems like, Read more…

I have had a recent personal conflict come up, I am not completely sure just exactly where to plant myself in regards to the issue. At the center of the issue is the preservation of Perryville versus that of the individual property owner. I have mentioned Perryville before, but for those that do not recall or do not otherwise know – Perryville is the small town nearby to the largest American Civil War battle that took place here in Kentucky.
