God is NotI read a friends blog the other night, sometime after the election.  I was left wondering the same question that he raised in his blog.  His blog was “How Would Jesus Vote?” I will begin by saying that in general I don’t really think that God takes sides in things like this, no more then does when people on the opposite sides of battlefield invoke his name prior to commencing the fight.  On the other hand, I think that perhaps it would, just as the friend suggested, be a good thing if all had prayed for his guidance and hand in the matter without invoking hime to be on one side or the other. Sequenced Traffic Lights

Red LightI am driving around somewhere the other day and I got really annoyed about the traffic lights.  It usually works, especially on stretches of by-passes and main through routes that you get stopped by just about as many lights as there are on the stretch of the road.  I have always thought this was kind of lame.  After all, the idea of the traffic signals is to keep traffic flowing in as orderly a fashion as possible.  In fact what usually happens is the lights retard the flow of traffic by causing excessive amounts of stopping. Marriage Issue

Wedding RingsGay marriage and equal rights for those so aligned - not something that you have heard much of this election cycle, which is kind of surprising considering the hot button issue that it had been back the last two presidential elections. I have only heard mention of it in passing this cycle and really not from any of the candidates themselves. I guess I heard it mentioned on the radio in passing the other idea, specifically some folks saying that it was not such a big issue to them compared to other things this time around and of course the counter view by some who are pushing for it that it is a major issue. Dame Busters

Formerly - The Dame & BustersI admit I am using a play on words in the title.  Many is the eve that I am spent in the two places.  Ad to that the restaurant that is now in its 2nd or 3rd iteration that used to be a drug store across the corner and Irish Pub down the street named McCarthy’s and you pretty much have my social scene for a large part of my college years, some what during after college and especially after the divorce so many years ago.  And to just show how things are cyclical in nature, where did I start hanging out again after things went crazy back in 2007?  Gosh, that really seems like it was longer ago then that now. Undecideds, Issues, A La Carte

A La CarteI found myself driving yesterday and listened a bit to the radio news and talk shows.  There was a lot of discussion by various personalities that indicated that there really probably are not any undecided voters out there still.  The general idea was that folks had decided and were not saying how they felt at this point for one reason or another.  I personally found this kind of humorous, especialy given some of the blogs and comments that I have been reading from some friends of mine.  There are a significant number of folks out there that I think who are still legitimately undecided. Solar MirrorsI have so many things that I am wanting to write about her in the blog right now that I am almost shutting myself down with the thoughts running around here and there in my head.   I thought this evening I would just run with some short little notes about things.  Which is a good lead into the first thing I wish to bring to your attention, and of course, I have to do this as my favorite, a list. 700 Billion Later…

Dow Jones - Inter-day ChartIt should came as little surprise to anyone that I found the 700 billion dollar bail out that was first rejected, and then later, with additions made, passed last week to bail out private entities distasteful to say the least. My personal believe was strongly that they made the poor choices and that they needed to ride them out. Fundamentally we have interfered with capitalism at the fundamental level. The fundamentals say that capitalistic based market economies will correct themselves. It is kind of Darwin for financing when you get down to it, but those that screw up will be eliminated. Basically the strong that make the right choices will survive. And yes, there will be sometimes when things get worse before they get better but that is the chance we take when we live in a market driven economical system. The more the government interjects into this process the more they are going to have to that in the future. Read more…

Selective Socialism II

AIGI am flabbergasted.  After my tirade yesterday about this I can not believe that the powers that be did not listen to me on this matter.  I am surely being accidentally overlooked by them in this matter, as I am sure if they had read my blog that they would surely not have went ahead with and 85 billion dollar bailout of American International Group, (AIG) Inc.  I really have a had time with this bailing out of private companies to begin.  However, when earlier in the week there was so much commentary that ran to the effect of the federal reserve is sending a message to Wall Street - there will be NO more bailouts.  Letting Lehman Brothers go ahead and fail to emphasis the point was what happened earlier in the week recall. Selective Socialism

Money Blowing AwayBeing the fiscal conservative that I am when it comes to government I have to wonder what the heck the powers that be have been thinking on some of their recent choices.   There are just to many wrong choices being made, but let me see if I can work trough them.

From my perspective I really can’t see how the government can justify the major bailout that it has recently made available to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.   Yeah, I get it, at one point they were government programs.  However, they had long since moved toward the private sector, having private investors and paying those private investors dividends as well as rewards on the stock market.  They assumed private risk in order to potentially (and did for some time) a private reward and the private sector backed them, putting their faith Read more…

Horse Art

Artistic HorseSeveral weeks ago now there was an editorial of sorts in Ace Weekly that ran something like all culture and art in Lexington is basically unsupported and considered second string to art that featured our equine friends.  The article was written in particularly reference to the then current court dates and hearings that were happening in reference to the demolition certain downtown properties to make room for the new Center Point Hotel complex.  It seemed to suggest that there is a move by the elite upper echelons of Lexington to crush out all creativity and expression of culture if it did center around the horse.  Further, there was an overtone that seemed to suggest that if you like horse art, you were stuck on yourself and could not appreciate art forms and culture that were otherwise available in the town.

I have to admit at the time I was more then a little riled up about the notion Read more…
