Goals for 2010
I am being reluctant to use the term resolution. I am not sure the reason behind that reluctance, I just know that it exists. Anyway, as I did last year, here are some goals for going forward in 2010. I think I need to go back and evaluate how I did in 2009, as I see more then one or two here in the list that seem to have become recurring themes. That will be another post if I go that direction. So here are the 2010 goals, in no particular order mind you.
- Get my fourteenth century kit looking just a little better, this includes some mail parts on armour and a good cleaning of it and a LOT of work on the soft kit (clothes) part, as so much of my garb is focused more on the thirteenth century.
- Got to get a horse trailer and that would is definitely required before mid-march.
- Need to loose weight and get in better shape. Foot is going to have be damned and just going to have to get back to exercising when I was loosing weight. Of course eating less and better will help with that (see below) and the exercise will help with endurance and just better shape for medieval fighting stuff. An initial weight goal is the loss of about sixty pounds, which is not all that impossible for me – I just need to get on it and stick with it.
- Cutting out the stupid extra calorie laden lunches and going back to a lot of salads and sandwich wraps brought from home. Much cheaper and better for me and my goals in the long run. This will require effort to resist this particular one.
- Purchase farm this year. I think everything is line for doing that by just before the midpoint of the year but I am not going to rush into something either. Must be the exact right situation.
- Have a baby. Given that it is not a given of even the someone, maybe it is more realistic to say have a baby on the way?
- Become more active with my blogging, I still have plenty to write about on a regular basis. At the end of the 2010 I would like to have over three hundred posts here on mephistos.
- More work accomplished on some writing projects that I have sitting around in various states that need some attention. Heck, maybe I should even get one finished.
- Much less television viewing for 2010 is on the agenda… This one should be fairly easy, as I have, with on a couple of exception cut out most television and those get watched in fast time, often even online on my schedule. Given that for several years there was no television of any note, I welcome this one and probably will cut it out completely excepting more educational geared things at the end of the current season.
- A bit more reading is a good goal. The last couple of years acquisitions of books to my collection has far outpaced the rate of my reading, and giving that my to read pile has been behind since around 1988 (it is with amusement I realize that is when I started college) it is a good goal.
- Another goal is much more jousting activity this year then probably the last two. Given the nature of the explosion with some things going forward I do not thing this will be a big problem, other then expense involved.
- A few extra pieces toward a fifteenth century kit would be a good goal too, but that will have to kind of what and see how things go toward the last half of the year.
- Acquire (probably only after a farm) an American Cream Draft horse for both work on the farm and use as a jousting mount eventually as well.
- Get something going on the side with some additional residual income compare to what exists at current time – not sure of the direction of this at this point, maybe back to some contractual programming?

Your goals are very much like mine:
* Find a place to call home on some land to have my horses, preferably close to a equestrian group I can practice with them.
* Buy a truck & a trailer. I want to participate in more events and to do so I need my own set up so I don’t have to bum rides.
* Start getting Armour. I have currently have none.
* Have my two young horses going under saddle.
* Get more in shape and drop some more weight. Currently I ride almost everyday and I have been playing Wii Sports but there is more I can be doing. I live right next to a track where I can jog or atleast ride my bike to the stables on warm days.
* Start fighter practice so I can learn to wield a sword and buy a Hungarian recurve bow so I can improve my Archery to do mounted Archery.
* Find someone I can share my life with that enjoys the same things I do.

P.S. – Thank you for posting Calvin & Hobbes with it. It was my brothers favorite comic strip. I miss him so much! He passed away in a motorcycle accident in 1998. He was 21.
