As mentioned before, I am doing a top ten best moments and/or experiences of 2009. Clearly these are things for which I am thankful for having had the opportunity. I am still debating regarding if I should do the same for the decade. It gets a little bit more involved to find the ten items that fit the list without skipping something else. And for those wondering, yeah, but decades end in the digit 9, but I started counting in a year that ended in 0, so I am all good. So the list is in order for a change, counting down to the number one experience – but for some reason WordPress seems to not agree with a <ol reversed> tag set.
- It occurred through out the year, but getting around to most of the equestrian events here in the kingdom of the Midrealm and meeting all the various folks throughout the kingdom ranked up there pretty high. I did miss a couple of them and will hopefully get to those next year. And if not for truck issues and having had horses, these would have rated as a collective group, even higher.
- After having a gimped up limping dog for a few days, a vet visit, and some medications, find out that was nothing to serious and that she is going to be just fine. Likely was just a bad pulled/extended muscle from turning or stopping to quickly in a wet patch of slippery ground when running very fast.
- Making the choice, after a bad experience of trying to outright purchase one, to instead trade the little car in on a better and more reliable truck. I almost regret the gas mileage for longer trips but I am so glad to be back in a bigger full size truck. Something that I have missed mightily much.
- A visit from a college friend that I had not seen, well since college rates up there big time. It occurred back in, well, was it October or late September? Time flies though and the time to catch up was very short indeed. Again sometime soon hopefully, maybe a bit sooner then eighteen years between this next time?
- A very happy moment came at some point this year when I finally got all my music organized. Incidentally I have all the CD’s ripped and available on a few different computers as well some portable devices. A plus on this feeling is that in keeping with my philosophy against piracy, every song was either given freely by the artists or was purchased legitimately.
- Finding out, just this month, that the SCA is going to pursue a balsa wood jousting experiment is getting up there pretty high. I am ecstatic about the prospect and looking forward to it very much. I feel for sure, giving the experience that we have here we will surely be allowed to participate with it. Beyond that it will open it up for a few more people to do and it is already driving me to improve my own kit beyond where it is currently.
- Was it back in May that I was at the Baron Wars event and received my White Chamfron award from the most stellar and Royal Majesties of the Midrealm. Yeah, that one rates up there. Of course it also rates because some the best equestrian friends were there and we had such a presence as we escorted Their Majesties into court on horseback.
- Another then occurred through out the year with various events, but anytime that Lucy has asked if I would be at such and such event or if she and I could go to the store, for dinner, etc… If (and I should say when) I move to something next year on my own, I am going to miss that part of living in my current situation the most.
- Being in the pack of a melee fight as well as the open field battles, during which I think I did better. at Pennsic back in August has rate up there. Though should it be just the melee fighting that gets this honor or the whole Pennsic War experience?
- Getting the news that I was going to be a Dad, despite all the circumstances and such has to be the number one experience of the year for me. This one was a no brainer to figure out, really.
