Frankly Scarlet

One thing I have been neglectful is covering music that I have been to this year.  Fact is I have not gone to any festivals or big name concerts this year, but I have caught a bunch of groups and individuals in the local scene, both in Lexington and even more so in Danville.  There are only a handful of places to catch music in Danville and of those most of them have pretty bad acoustics.  That being what it is, my favorite place is at Joe’s Fourth Street Deli and Tap Room.  Given that, what I really wanted to mention was local groups… and at the top of that list is no surprise, Frankly Scarlet!  Check them out by the way at Joe’s on this Saturday eve, January 2nd, 2010!

Worst Ten…2009

Posted in: Frustrations, Life | Posted by: rcornish | Comments: 0 | Date: 30 December, 2009

And of course as a correlation to the best ten moments of 2009, there had to be a worst ten moments/experiences of of 2009.  I am not sure if this indicates that I am a negative person or not, but it seems to me that the ability to find the ten negatives was easier.  I am going to go with instead that I had such happy moments to choose from that it made it difficult, where the negatives were far and few and hence easier to select.  How is that for positive thinking?

Top Ten…2009

Top TenAs mentioned before, I am doing a top ten best moments and/or experiences of 2009.  Clearly these are things for which I am thankful for having had the opportunity.  I am still debating regarding if I should do the same for the decade.  It gets a little bit more involved to find the ten items that fit the list without skipping something else.  And for those wondering, yeah, but decades end in the digit 9, but I started counting in a year that ended in 0, so I am all good.  So the list is in order for a change, counting down to the number one experience – but for some reason Wordpress seems to not agree with a <ol reversed> tag set.

Some Green

Posted in: Green-Living | Posted by: rcornish | Comments: 0 | Date: 20 December, 2009

I am not sure why I get to thinking more about green aspects of life during the holiday season, but I do.  Maybe it because I start thinking about the primary colors of Christmas or maybe it is the green of the Christmas tree?  Really I should be thinking more about it all the time and I suppose in some ways I am doing that.  Anyway, all that aside I have a few more green tips that I have been keeping in my head for a bit and thought I would get share before the end of the year.

Odd Bits…

Posted in: Blogging, Life, Observations, Technology | Posted by: rcornish | Comments: 0 | Date: 19 December, 2009

Some historical irony in this weeks list of observations that I just find wonderfully fulfilling in a geeky kind of way.  Also a good enough story that strikes home to some posts I have had here before about the idea and also the fact that you do not necessarily need an electronic can opening device built into your laptop.  Hopefully, I have done a better job with my note taking as I have observed things this week, as I putting it together on the fly when most things are actually observed.

Even More Observations

the_problem_with_wikipediaI think this is fourth almost weekly post of short little observations  I have made over the past week.  I am a little concerned though, as this week found me getting my bet inspiration for little short blog entries when I was busy otherwise.  And so I have very little in the way of little notes like I would have otherwise and with my aged mind working against me I am not sure that I am going to be able to remember the better parts of what would have otherwise been up in the offering here.  For that I do apologize and will try to make a bit better use of note taking devices for this coming week.

An Affair to Remember

Affair to RememberAny one seen the movie An Affair to Remember?  I am sure millions of you (as if I have that many readers) have seen it.  I am sure further that a good half of that number would list it in a top 25 romantic movie list.  And for those that have not there would be an equal number would recall the references and clips of the movie in the more modern movie Sleepless in Seattle.  Well, I am going to say that I just really do not like the movie and what is all about, which is really saying something as Cary Grant is one of my favorite actors from the time period it was produced.  If you have not seen it, warning for spoiler information ahead… Read more…

Shortest Post Ever?

Tweet Me a StoryAs promised, my tweet stories:  I have them up for comments here and over on the NYCmidnight forums for open comments, suggestions, and so on.  I will bias you a bit here in a second and tell you which one is getting the most favorable reviews over there, but first, read and draw your on conclusions:

When smugly exiting the brothel, he thought, “What about my family?” He shrugged, smiled inwardly, and continued on his way.

The dogs, his only real family, looked on, while he struggled in despair with the ghoulish task at hand.

Convinced all was likely lost, she thought of the baby, her family to be, and pulled the trigger.

You Just Get One…

One Love?Okay, I admit right off the bat that maybe this is not the best of times for me to be behind the keyboard.  I have had a few stiff bourbons and having exhausted that I have moved on to lesser things like improvised margaritas.  That being said though, I have something on my mind, and found it mostly expressed in a few songs, on in particular.  A country-ish song from a few years ago, well now that I think on it, a LOT of years ago.  That aside though, there is a song entitled “You Just Get One…,” the lyrics of which include, “You just get one true love.”

Short Story

Posted in: Blogging, Life, Literature | Posted by: rcornish | Comments: 2 | Date: 09 December, 2009

Tweet a Story?Did something early this evening that was a good deal of fun and I will be interesting to see how it turns out in the long run. Basically I entered a contest that was tweet me a short story. The basic rules, as original SMS says, can not be over a 140 characters long. In addition you had a keyword that you were given at a certain time and with a window of time you had to turn in your story.  More about that in a minute.

Before I go into that to much though, one or maybe two other thoughts. Over there on the left is a new poll. Please take a minute and see what you think. It is the result of a conversation I had with a friend not to long ago and this poll is to maybe help us settle a point. Please take a minute and vote on it so I can point out to this friend that I am indeed right. And no worries, I will not change the results in my favor, scouts honor!
