Odd Day

Ashley - RIPI just have had one of the oddest days today and thought I would share a bit about it in pretty much the order that things happened.  Most of it summed up to not a really good day, but a couple of things did have a positive moment or two in there.  The day began with getting going a bit good deal before 7:00am on what was being a day off for me…

  • To make the longest part of my day as short as concise as possible, I am tag teaming a friends dogs with feeding, letting out, and such.  One of the three dogs had a bad bout of illness not so long ago.  I came back last eve and there was a good chance of having to take her to vet this morning. Turns out, on my arrival there was an obvious and immediate need for vet care.
  • I quickly arrived at the vet, but despite a couple of cars across the way no lights were on the doors were locked.  None of my three calls had been answered either.  A bit of an issue, but maybe the owner has the emergency number or some such.  After a bit of round robin on the phone they were there, just had not turned on the lights and unlocked the door on time.  However, the vet was not going to arrive for a bit.
  • Poor Ashley, the dogs name, got oxygen and an attempted IV.  And despite calling the vet and getting him on his way immediately, she passed peacefully prior to his arrival.  Given the potential illness before and slight suspicion when she left it was not a total shock, but still being the one on the watch when a friends beloved passes is the makings of an ugly day to say the least.
  • Decided to console myself with some breakfast and I was nearby to a place with plenty of bacon – which is a favorite of course.  My own dogs would be disappointed, but oh well.  While there I sat across from some distant family that oddly enough I had just asked about the day before and no one really had any news.  We got a good catchup session.
  • Even better, while I was there Maria Montgomery, most recent fourth runner up in the Miss America Pageant come by and recognized me and we spoke briefly.  Kind of cool what helping with a blog or two will and some other technology will sometimes get you with the sometimes rich and mostly famous.
  • Went home and spent a bit of time with my dogs and caught up some on some online stuff.  Even tried for a short little nap.  Short and very interrupted, as everyone I know (almost) decided to call me during that hour.  Finally I gave up.
  • Knowing I had some plans for the track later, though I admit at this point I was not feeling it, I headed over the credit union in Harrodsburg to check out some additional money and maybe be on my way.
  • Friend called and had a bunch of stuff she was working and catching up and wanted to skip the track, which was actually a good thing, as I was kind of thinking maybe I should do the same.
  • Got to the credit union to find they were closed for Friday after Thanksgiving as well as the day of the actual holiday.  Kind of a frustration as I would not have made the drive otherwise.
  • Decided screw it, I would go to the other bank instead, which is back in Danville and <GASP> located inside a Wal-Mart.  That was just as ugly an experience as you can imagine and all I did was go to the front, get money, and leave.
  • So now it was late in the afternoon and I was really thinking lunch.  A sandwich sounded like a good option.  Only a short drive, but alas they were closed on Friday.  Yet I was pretty sure they were supposed to have live music that eve.  That was kind of odd.
  • A second choice is order, but drat that place is found to be closed as well.
  • Feeling like a certain Jimmy Buffet song I cruised on back home and was thinking I would just catch that nap now.
  • Before I got settled, a cute young girl pulled in the drive, asking which way to Danville.  Kind of funny, considering the road she was on takes you in about three more miles.  She explained she was competing in the Miss Kentucky Pageant (which is in town this year because of Maria).  I gave her both general and specific directions to her destination and told her to tell Maria hello, which was a bit surprising I think.
  • And I did, sleeping past a reasonable hour when I was suppose to have maybe met up with a friend for dinner and such.  I made apologies and and returned the call that awoke me.  It was another friend wondering about doing something, but that feel through a bit later on their end.
  • A little later though a few friends stopped by, and shortly after they left, roommate got home with a friend of hers, and later another friend come over.  A few drinks and some good, yet silly, television and conversation was had.
