Circular Reference

Circular ReferenceRecently noticed something when I was doing a little bit of work trying to do a little promotion to drum up a few more readers to the blog here at Mephistos.   Thing that really stands out is a lot places that are promotional tools for people with blogs tend to attract only other bloggers as even somewhat regular visitors.  This leads to a lot of promotion to the people that probably are already reading and has even more issues.

MS .net & Firefox

Microsoft .netA few months ago I was blogging about the then heating up browser wars fairly regularly.  Happy to report that to begin with FireFox finally started behaving for me  and I am using it most of the time again.  I am still using IE in those places that require it (ASP and .net back ends).  And of course, if I want something with minimum features that loads quick, especially in like a coffee shop setting or trying to hit one of those silly online games (that I never ever play) I love the nimble quickness of Chrome – and am actually finding it mostly stable these days.

The List

The ListThe List is the name of Rosanne Cash’s latest effort.  The album itself is about twelve or so songs (depends on format and bonus tracks)  of historical importance and significance in especially country music.  Some of them are very similar to some traditional versions of the songs and others have a completely new slant and direction that Rosanne takes them in, including several that are done as duos with several folks one would not suspect.  The most interesting thing though, is where the songs and indeed, the album name comes from – her father, Johnny.

Random Thoughts

#77 at Tombstone JunctionI started this several days back and for whatever reason I did not get it finished.  I did make a few notes about the rest of my random thoughts and thought I would put those here quickly and go with it.  Those of who read here on a regular basis know that I am not to much on putting together random thoughts, but some of these just seemed to be begging to get out now without becoming a full enough thought for a blog entry.  Besides, I have over fifty drafts here in Wordpress and several more between my note card book and a file stored on my desktop (keep coming back the rest of this month, but really be looking for November in regards to those posts by the way).  And of course, my favorite, a list is so appropriate for this kind of thought process.

Scenic ShotOver the last couple of weeks I had the enjoyment of catching Ken Burn’s latest production on the local PBS affiliate  of National Parks.  I should have posted before now, because it was available online as well up until last Friday, though there are a few supplemental videos still available at video.pbs.com and the entire series can be purchased from I-Tunes.  Regardless, I am sure it will be aired again on several PBS stations here shortly and when it does in your area it is amazing and well worth the effort to watch it.

Waiting for Godot

Waiting for GodotSometimes the mystery of life is just almost too much to contemplate.  I have had on three occasions  in the last thirteen days of where I have been reminded of a play by the title of Waiting for Godot by Thomas Beckett.  I had the pleasure, if it can be called that, of reading that play back in my college days for a drama class.  If I recall correctly, I was treated to a viewing of the play, via a video recording, that was almost as dry as the reading of itself.  Regardless of that though, the meaning of the play truly did strike a cord with me at the time and I have periodically come back to it several times in life.

Anonyponymous

John MontaguTo have always been such a logical, scientific and mathematical thinker, I have always like the way certain big words look and sound.  And appealing to logical side of me along with the side that loves history, I really like finding out about where words come from and stepping through the usually logical beginnings of how a word began to where some distant relative word means something that does not seem on the surface to make logical sense, but given the history usually it does.  With all of that goes a love on my part of just learning new words, which is where anonyponymous fits into this little blog, but more about that one in a bit.

Plug and OutletListen up all you folks out there writing plugins.  Yeah, I am talking to you developers, especially those of you doing things for Wordpress.  Oh, but if you are writing for another platform, tune in as well.  I got a beef with you of recent.  A beef that I am sure almost everyone else that is using your product has with you as well.
