Hereby Resolved
As the end of 2008 is rapidly approaching I thought it time to make a post sending it off. The more I have thought about that post though, the more I have come to wonder what happened with 2008. First of all, I know it is ‘cliche-ish’ to say this, but wow it went by fast. I know, some of you are thinking reality is I am just getting old and it seems to do that and maybe you are right.
Beyond the speed of the years passing though is that I just am not very happy with 2008 as whole. It started out fine enough and has had a couple of bright spots in it, some of which were possibly brightest spots ever for me. With those brights spots have also been more then a fair share of just dark gloomy patches that were probably the worst of those as well and the whole year just sort of seems shrouded in a damp fog looking back. So, rather then dwelling on 2008 and how I feel like I have maybe taken a step or twenty back in my life, I thought I would look forward to 2009 with some resolve of making a few things better. To that end, here is probably a gigantic list of resolutions I have.
- Going to get back on the more healthy eating. Primarily that was just watching what I was eating in quantity more then anything else, but also trying to keep on certain food groups. Yeah, I admit I have not done that much since my stunning getting to my best low weight in years and consequently I am back about fifteen pounds since the fall.
- In conjunction with the above, I have let slide my regularly exercising the last couple of months. Jack is going to appreciate it come mid-March if I get back to going to the gym at least a three or four times a week. Not to mention, in between the dogs will like it on pretty days if we just go for walks.
- Going to get back on the heavy field for competition in the SCA. I have the card, have the armour, and it would be good to be King one day sometime just so I can put some pretty girl on the throne next to me. All Sunday afternoons are going to that effort.
- Combine all the above and I am looking to drop another thirty pounds by March, which is not unrealistic. I am going to have to do some dreaded crunches though to get it going for sure.
- I did not ride near enough last year. This year Jack and I going to ride least once a week once warm weather hits and perhaps more often then that. I will also be spending a LOT more time with the horses this year in general then I did last year as well.
- Similarly we did not do nearly enough medieval reenacting and such last year. We have our first big equestrian event planned for Gulf Wars XXVIII in early March and at least half a dozen more after that. In addition, we are going to go to about four or five events prior to that where no equestrian activities are taking place.
- Some major work needs to be done on armour and soft kit. It includes polishing everything, adding a few pieces of armour and the definately some new garb is in the works. Also need to finish up the barding from a couple of seasons ago that is literally tacked together. And then we get to start working toward making it all look about 100% more period correct then what it currently is as it is definitely marginal.
- Going to get a better attitude about life and just try and take things as they come a bit more instead of constantly struggling and fighting the stream to make things be what we think should be. Maybe this is taking a big of faith and combining with some acceptance – but still not just settling hopefully.
- Getting back to doing some coding on the side is a possibility of things. I used to do that, enjoy it and had lots of extra spending money when I did. I am not teaching these days which had been the extra the last few years. Doing coding is my joy of the computer technology world anyway. There are lots of low hanging little project out there that require only minimal effort for maximum return.
- Yes, I admit to fully slacking off for most the month of December in regards to the blog here on mephistos. Going to get that cranked back up and it is my goal to have a few more post in the year of 2009. Despite best attempts otherwise, I have averaged just under a post ever other day. I will push toward every day, but will be happy to get slightly over ever other day on average for all of 2009.
- With that there are a few dozen little tweaks, add-ons, and just general finishing up and cleaning up things here on mephistos that need to be done. A goal of doing that by the end of the month is the plan.
- At the same time a couple of other websites, most specifically eligius.org are going to get a finishing up of major work that was started back a few months ago. I will keep all updated here as that rolls along.
