Techno
A few nights ago I was at a club (we will not mention the name or the location to protect both the innocent and the guilty), but anyway on one side of said club they were playing some techno type music, which I probably have not heard but a few dozen times in the last dozen years and probably all of those but one was in some movie. However, there is definitely something to be said for a techno beat really wanting to make you move and get your groove on. Not that I can really dance, but at least I make an effort and with that kind of music I can I am sure work off some calories. Probably what I should have been doing the other night in retrospect. Anyway, the name stuck in my head, but what I really am writing about is some more short notes on technology and technology things that are really getting to me today.
- Okay, I started this a few days back and the first thing I was going to do was complain about LinkedIn.com not having the newly released “applications” plugin working correctly. I was excited when I noted that, as one was for linking in blogs. For those not in the know LinkedIn is a network, though instead of social in nature is more professional and I have a few contacts over there from business and jobs that would not be on facebook or similar. When they applications were first announced I tried several times without success to get them to go fully active. Since then though the bugs have apparently been ironed out and as of this morning I was able to link to my blog, giving me a nice looking RSS type of feed of the blog, complete with blogs. So check out the LinkedIn and keep in mind it is where empoyeers are more likely to see you in the future, so keep it professional.
- I have been seeing a lot of discussion in various places about the future Windows 7.0. Note that that name has not been made official or anything, but the name itself is interesting in that all the last few version have a number of something similar, but were called a vastly different name in marketing. The big question: is it going to be Vista with a make-over or a true revision. We are are hoping for at least getting rid of a lot bloat that seemed to have crept in with Vista. And truly, though I have not adopted it, but it seems to be that is all Vista had to really offer the average user over XP, which is why I think there has been a lot of slowness to adopt, considering the expense especially. My personal opinion, let Vista go the short cycle the say ME did and give us something worthwhile for the headache of doing a major upgrade roll in the corporate world. Of course I have said as much before and still think that is likely what will happen over at Microsoft.
- Updates that are breaking things are staring to get to on my nerves. And given that I am an IT person and understand a lot of things, I can only imagine how it feels to the unsuspecting person out there. The most recent of these is the newest Adobe Flash update broke the flash upload code that works with the WordPress software. I am not sure why it breaks it, have not had the time nor the inclination to work. I don’t even know why it bugs me so much, other then it adds another button click or two in the process, the end result is still the same. I do understand the need for updates, especially when there is a security issue are a major enhancement and/or additional features. However, it seems like we have gotten into having updates on some software weekly just because they want us to see the update splash they have. Really folks, if it works leave it alone if there is not a problem. And once you make an update, give us a place to report what it breaks that is easy to get too and understand and then follow up on it. Not going to happen, as that would be like customer service from a technology company.
- Blu Ray is apparently dead and does not know it yet. Okay, I admit that I have not upgraded to a HD TV, though I do like the thought of doing it sometime soon. Blu Ray was suppose to be the media format that would replace DVD, which didn’t have enough to look good a big screen HD format. In the meantime though, the extreme expense of both media in the format and the players, lack of a deepth in the catalog, and add to that the huge licensing expense to produce the format and it is wonder it has caught on as much as it has. Consider also the huge ability of on demand ability with things like cable and satellite and the fact that they got there first and the writing is all but on the wall. Of course the thing this does bring into question is the how downloading things and storing them, and here-in I am showing my age. I know with MP3, most people just purchase (or maybe not) and pull the music down to whatever and keep it. I am doing MP3′s but most of mine are purchased in CD format and then rip them – but I keep the CD for the archive. Guess I am going to have to catch up with that technology and get used to not having the DVD either at some point in the future.
