Specifically it is the dungeon of 1387 tortures, a line that comes from Second Hand Lions, a movie of most excellent qualities. As I watch it on television for the upteenth time that I have seen it I am reminded once again of just how much I love this movie. I am not sure the why I like it so much, other then as I get closer to where the two older men in the movie are in age I begin to understand the washed up feelings that are so represent in that movie. It is also worth noting that just about every person that I have ever watched that movie with at some point or another has indicated that I am likely to end up like the two main character and already have a lot of the characteristics that they have. A few days back I went with a few friends out to a gallery hop in Lexington. The idea of the gallery hop is that several different galleries in the and near the downtown area are open late, all have exhibits of some nature. And to encourage some social interaction most have the artist present along with some finger foods and beverages, including much cheese and wine. Read more…

Yesterday I was hard on some technologies. Today, despite having found even more technology things to be down about, I thought I would make note of a couple of positives. I need to be more positive in my life right now anyway. First though, I thought I would make a note of why so much technology, especially that with computers and especially software gets so messed up sometimes. First, we are writing code for a several million different possible combinations of hardware platforms, and while it all should met some standards, it is still different. Second is the way we end up using softare is not the way it was intended often, not to mention trying to design stuff that makes a feature guy like me happy and yet still works with the lowest end by knows how to get the computer on user too. Lastly is the just the development cycle and cost of testing all of the differences above. At some point a vice-president says it has got to go out and of course in my favorite word, the GPL/GPU licensing, we release it to get feedback and testing to make the next one better.

Just what is it with the technology gods these days. Yes, I said lower case technology gods, as they do not deserve a capital letter these days. It seems like everything that I have tried that has been new or especially an update in the last week or two has turned into an ordeal or at the very least really made me have a sour look on my face during the process. I have listed a few of them below just to give some idea of how things have been of late. Guess this is God (note the capital G) telling me that I should be blogging more and installing and playing with new/updated toys a LOT less – which I admit that I have not done much the last couple of weeks. WEbook sounded so good on the first glance at things. A way to put your unpublished work out there in front of other (potential) writers and get some comments, review information, and usually much needed feedback. When I first read of the information I was so incredibly excited. Heck, they have even have process by which you could get voted up as being a popular book on the site and even offered a publishing deal. The details are sure worth checking out though before you actually put your hard written work up on the site, especially details in the Terms of Use Agreement. Read more…
