Sarah Palin

Sarah PalinI am sure that her name has just started showing up in about 1G of places all across the network.  I just heard and have since read to verify that Sarah Palin is the presumptive nominee for Vice Presidential with John McCain.  I have to say this one shocked me a bit.  It is happy shock though, as I am more then sure I was not like the two front running possible selection very much and that was turning me further afield from McCain at all points.  Especially given his recent straying from the maverick positions he has held on issues in the past, I was actually hoping against all probability that McCain would choose Joe Liberman.

I do not think Liberman would have gone over well with the established republican party though.  I personally think he and McCain would have made an awesome ticket, but I think the only way it would have really worked is for them to have ran on an independent ticket.  I think they could have done that, maybe more successfully then they would have realized, but anyway.

I am still looking into her background, but I have to admit on the casual glance that I am now starting to be excited about this election process again.  I admit, that as McCain was drifting from where I thought he should be and it was seemingly apparent that Obama had things wrapped up I was debating if it was even going to be something I was going to vote on.  After all, McCain is an imperfect match to my core believes about things, but the best match of all the republicans that had been offered and a much better match then Obama or Clinton.  I was consider the other candidates, but that in itself would have been a vote against McCain and consequently for Obama.

So quickly looking at what she has done in her career and life so far it looks good and like someone I can get behind.   She has a successful marriage, children, and has balanced that with a career, granted, a short one, in politics.  Politically, she seems more inclined toward the middle with a much more emphasis on getting government smaller and getting rid of motivations like political interest groups that lead to bigger spending and more pork barrel type of dealing.  At least this is the indication that comes from her short service in Alaska, especially as governor.  Some of her actions as governor have apparently including selling a hugely expensive plane that was a credit purchase by a former administration, stopping and shrinking construction project that were of questionable benefit to the state, as well as when mayor cutting taxes and such as that – all of these things point to the financially conservative approach to government which makes me extremely pleased.

She does have a strong pro life stance, which I can live with that – though as I have expressed before, I personally disagree with the stance.  Her stance on gay relationships lines up almost exactly with mine – you can have benefits for you same sex partner, however marriage itself is a recognition of something that can and only should exist between a man and woman, period.  Her record on this issue bears this out and it is a very much in keeping with my general ideas of things.

Well, I am going to go ahead and this posted so I can be part of the second 2G worth of posts, news stories, and what what have you that have the name Sarah Palin in it today.   I am sure I will post more on this subject in the not far off future.   Besides, my lunch of animal crackers and coffee is almost over which means I need to get back to work doing realy IT stuff.
